Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out regular site visits and property inspections across the district
- Mentor and support Housing Standards / Renewal Officers, contributing to high-quality investigative and enforcement work
- Investigate housing complaints and assess landlord compliance with relevant housing legislation
- Advise tenants, landlords, and stakeholders on housing rights and available remedies
- Undertake Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) assessments to identify hazards and enforcement requirements
- Assess and enforce mandatory HMO licensing, empty homes standards, and disrepair cases
- Gather evidence, conduct PACE interviews, and prepare comprehensive legal enforcement files
- Apply the Council’s enforcement policy consistently and proportionately
- Prepare and execute enforcement actions including Improvement Notices, Prohibition Orders, Civil Penalties, and Prosecutions
Key Skills:
- Proven experience in housing standards enforcement within a local authority
- Strong working knowledge of housing legislation, HHSRS, and HMO licensing
- Experience preparing legal files and undertaking enforcement action
- Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
