Summary: An opportunity exists for a Housing Options Officer to work with a Local Authority client in Solihull on a temporary contract for 3 months, with a strong likelihood of extension. The role involves full-time hours with a hybrid working arrangement, requiring experience in housing problem resolution and knowledge of relevant housing laws. Candidates should be prepared to work on-site two days a week and have the ability to manage a caseload effectively. Immediate availability is preferred for applicants with relevant experience in a similar role within the last three years.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interviewing clients and resolving all housing problems.
- Processing claims for homeless applications as required under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended).
- Advising and preventing homelessness by offering the correct advice to clients approaching the Council as homeless.
- Assessing whether those threatened with homelessness qualify for private sector options under the Housing Act, Part VII, as amended.
- Having regard to the Homelessness Code of Guidance and the Council's Homelessness Prevention and resilience agenda.
- Sound knowledge of Housing and Homelessness Law and experience in resolving complex housing problems.
- Administrative skills to manage caseload and work effectively in a team of 6-8 officers.
- Ability to deal with demanding service users and partners, with strong IT and admin skills.
- Updating Personal Housing Plans (PHPs).
Key Skills:
- Previous experience in a similar role with a local authority within the last three years.
- Strong knowledge of the Homelessness Reduction Act.
- Ability to work on a rota basis from the client's office.
- Car driver preferred for occasional home visits.
