Summary: The Housing Options and Advice Officer role is a temporary position with a public sector client in Crawley, West Sussex, requiring full-time commitment of 36 hours per week. The officer will manage a caseload related to homelessness, conducting interviews, processing applications, and making decisions in accordance with housing law. The position necessitates office attendance two days a week for phone duty and direct client interaction. Previous experience in a similar role within a local authority is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a caseload of homeless approaches from initial contact to main duty decisions.
- Conduct interviews with clients to resolve housing issues.
- Process claims for homeless applications under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996.
- Advise clients to prevent homelessness and assess eligibility for private sector options.
- Ensure compliance with the Homelessness Code of Guidance and the Council's prevention agenda.
- Complete s184 decisions and maintain accurate Personal Housing Plans (PHPs).
- Collaborate effectively within a team of 6-8 officers.
- Handle demanding service users and maintain strong administrative and IT skills.
Key Skills:
- Previous experience in a housing options role with a local authority.
- Sound knowledge of Housing and Homelessness Law.
- Experience in processing homeless applications and making legal decisions.
- Strong interviewing and client resolution skills.
- Ability to manage a caseload effectively.
- Strong IT and administrative skills.
- Knowledge of the Homelessness Reduction Act.
