Highways Development Engineer

Summary: The Highways Development Engineer role in Essex involves leading technical assurance for developer-designed highway schemes within a high-profile contract. Key Responsibilities:

• Review and approve detailed designs for new highways and improvements to existing infrastructure
• Ensure developer works are suitable for adoption by the Highway Authority
• Represent the Highway Authority in local planning consultations
• Provide clear, timely advice to developers, councillors, and stakeholders
• Attend and chair design meetings, respond to technical queries, and manage statutory processes
• Initiate and support the legal adoption of developer infrastructure
• Liaise closely with internal teams, local councils, and the public
• Assist and occasionally deputise for senior engineering staff

Key Skills:

• A degree, HNC, or equivalent experience in highways or civil engineering
• Proven experience in delivering highway schemes within major development projects
• Sound understanding of the Highways Act 1980, CDM 2015, and relevant legislation
• Strong attention to detail, communication, and stakeholder management skills
• Competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• A full UK driving licence is desirable
