Summary: The Highways Development Engineer role in Essex involves leading technical assurance for developer-designed highway schemes within a high-profile contract. Key Responsibilities:
- Review and approve detailed designs for new highways and improvements to existing infrastructure
- Ensure developer works are suitable for adoption by the Highway Authority
- Represent the Highway Authority in local planning consultations
- Provide clear, timely advice to developers, councillors, and stakeholders
- Attend and chair design meetings, respond to technical queries, and manage statutory processes
- Initiate and support the legal adoption of developer infrastructure
- Liaise closely with internal teams, local councils, and the public
- Assist and occasionally deputise for senior engineering staff
Key Skills:
- A degree, HNC, or equivalent experience in highways or civil engineering
- Proven experience in delivering highway schemes within major development projects
- Sound understanding of the Highways Act 1980, CDM 2015, and relevant legislation
- Strong attention to detail, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- A full UK driving licence is desirable
