Summary: The role of Highly Specialised Speech and Language Therapist involves delivering high-quality autism assessments and contributing to the development of a new ADHD & Autism Diagnostic Service. Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialist speech, language and social communication assessments within the ASD diagnostic pathway
- Administer, score and interpret ADOS-2 and ADI-R
- Contribute to detailed developmental history taking and diagnostic formulation
- Undertake complex differential diagnosis where autism overlaps with ADHD, DLD and mental health presentations
- Produce high-quality, comprehensive diagnostic reports suitable for clinical and statutory processes
- Provide strengths-based, neuroaffirmative feedback to families
- Support the development and implementation of assessment pathways, triage systems and governance frameworks
Key Skills:
- HCPC registration as a Speech & Language Therapist
- Significant post-qualification experience in neurodevelopmental assessment
- ADOS-2 trained
- ADI-R trained with demonstrable experience administering and interpreting assessments independently
- Experience contributing to multidisciplinary autism diagnostic decision-making
- Excellent formulation, analytical and report-writing skills
- A proactive, flexible and solution-focused approach suited to a developing service
