Summary: The High Level Technician (Rolling Stock) role involves working within a small technical team to provide high-level mechanical and electrical maintenance support for the Electrostar Fleet. The technician will be responsible for fault finding, repairs, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations while assisting the Fleet Operator in maintaining train reliability and availability. The position requires a strong technical background in both electrical and mechanical engineering, along with excellent communication skills. This is a safety-critical role within a leading rolling stock manufacturing and maintenance company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Fleet Operator in corrective mechanical and electrical maintenance.
- Conduct high-level fault finding and repairs on the Electrostar Fleet.
- Provide engineering advice on key vehicle systems such as TCMS, HVAC, and propulsion.
- Monitor warranty issues and liaise with supplier technical teams.
- Attend to faulty trains in service and perform component replacements.
- Conduct root cause analysis using methodologies like FRACAS and 8D.
- Update maintenance instructions and optimize processes in collaboration with technical teams.
- Monitor train reliability and availability performance, issuing monthly reports.
- Run diagnostics software to identify faults in various train systems.
- Provide engineering support for safety-related incidents and represent the customer in Failure Review Boards.
- Contribute to daily health and safety practices.
- Complete all paperwork accurately prior to supervisor validation.
Key Skills:
- NVQ Level 3 in an electrical discipline.
- Experience within the rail industry, particularly with Electrostar trains.
- Proficiency in using laptops and diagnostic tools for fault determination.
- Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
- Ability to work from maintenance manuals and schematics.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Strong report writing skills.
- Extensive knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering.
