Summary: The Health Physics Monitor role is a contract position focused on supporting radiological safety operations at a licensed nuclear site in Preston. The position requires experienced professionals to conduct routine and non-routine radiological monitoring while ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The role involves working full-time on-site and requires the ability to gain security clearance. The contract duration is 12 months with a pay rate of £35 per hour through an umbrella company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out dose rate, contamination and airborne activity surveys
  • Perform routine and ad hoc radiological monitoring
  • Support contamination control, decontamination and waste clearance activities
  • Assist with control of Supervised and Controlled Areas
  • Conduct air sampling, smear sampling and bioassay collection
  • Carry out daily operational checks on radiation monitoring equipment
  • Maintain accurate monitoring records and survey reports
  • Support radiological incident response and emergency arrangements
  • Liaise with operational teams to ensure risks are understood and managed

Key Skills:

  • Previous experience as a Health Physics Monitor / Radiological Monitor
  • Experience working in a regulated environment (nuclear preferred)
  • Hands on practical monitoring experience
  • City & Guilds Level 1 in Radiation Protection or NVQ Level 2 in Radiation Protection (or equivalent)
  • Radiation safety and contamination control training
  • IOSH Working Safely (or equivalent)
  • UK National Security Vetting Status - Ability to gain SC Clearance

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week 8am-4pm Monday to Friday

Role information:

We are recruiting experienced Health Physics Monitors to support radiological safety operations at a licensed nuclear site in Preston. This role involves delivering routine and non routine radiological monitoring in a highly regulated environment, ensuring activities are carried out safely, compliantly and in line with IRR17 and ALARP principles.
