Head of Finance – Place Directorate

We are currently seeking an experienced Interim Head of Finance – Place Directorate to join a local authority in the North West region on an initial 6-month contract.

This is a key leadership role responsible for providing strategic financial support across Place services, including areas such as Regeneration, Housing, Environment, Highways, Planning, and Economic Development. You will lead a finance team and partner with senior stakeholders to drive effective financial management and support organisational priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the finance business partnering function for the Place Directorate.
• Provide strategic financial advice to Directors, Assistant Directors, and senior stakeholders.
• Oversee budget setting, financial planning, forecasting, and monitoring.
• Support transformation programmes, savings delivery, and investment initiatives.
• Ensure robust financial governance and compliance with local government finance regulations.
• Lead and develop a high-performing finance team.

About You:

• CIPFA, ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified.
• Significant experience within local government finance.
• Strong understanding of Place services and associated financial challenges.
• Proven track record of delivering financial leadership within a complex organisation.
• Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
• Able to make an immediate impact in an interim environment.
