Summary: The Head of Finance position is a contract role for a local authority in London, requiring a qualified accountant to provide expert financial advice and develop financial strategies. Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide proactive expert advice on financial and capital strategy and accounting to Members, the Director, Head of Service, and managers.
  • Develop and implement the council’s financial strategy, liaising with central government departments and other authorities.
  • Develop and implement the council’s capital strategy and capital accounting.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements in local government funding and financial strategy.
  • Identify and forecast funding and income sources, assessing associated risks.
  • Advise on maximizing financial resources available to the council.

Key Skills:

  • Qualified accountant.
  • Experience in financial strategy development and implementation.

Detailed Description From Employer:

Head of Finance wanted for a local authority based in London. The role will be for 6 -9 months and can pay up to £750 p/day. The role would require office attendance 1 day p/week.

Main duties include:-

  • To provide proactive expert advice to Members, the Director, Head of Service and managers across the authority on financial and capital strategy and accounting.
  • Accountable for the development and implementation of the council’s financial strategy, liaising as required with central government departments, external agencies and other local authorities.
  • Accountable for the development and implementation of the council’s capital strategy and capital accounting.
  • To keep abreast of developments in local government funding, financial strategy and capital accounting, and ensure that the council’s arrangements operate in compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements and good practice.
  • To identify and forecast the funding and income available to the council, together with the risks associated with each source of finance and potential impact of such risks.
  • To identify and advise on ways in which the council can maximise the financial resources available to it.
