Summary: The role of Temporary Head of Finance is a crucial interim position for a charity based in Headington, requiring a qualified accountant to lead the finance function. The successful candidate will manage finance teams and oversee various financial operations, including payroll and budgeting. This position reports directly to the CEO and is essential for maintaining compliance and financial oversight during the transition period. Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial oversight through successful monthly reconciliations, quarterly management accounts and KPIs, and cashflow and expenditure forecasting.
  • Lead and manage the Finance function and staff.
  • Oversee compliance and regulatory responsibilities, including adherence to Charity Commission financial guidelines, and all relevant tax and VAT legislation.
  • Management of payroll, Gift Aid, financial systems and controls.
  • Support governance and audit processes.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and SMT on budget setting, Legacy fund administration, and governance.

Key Skills:

  • Qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, or CIPFA) with a strong track record in financial management, within the charity/not-for-profit sector.
  • Strong leadership skills and a track record of successfully managing and developing finance teams.
  • Strong understanding of day-to-day financial operations, including transactional finance, payroll, VAT, and the production of management accounts, financial KPIs, budgets, and cash flow forecasts.
  • Excellent IT skills, particularly in using finance systems and Excel for reporting and financial analysis.

We re delighted to be supporting our impressive Headington based client in their search for a Temporary Head of Finance. This is a crucial interim role covering for the outgoing postholder and offers an exciting opportunity to lead the finance function in a high-performing, mission-led organisation.

Reporting into the CEO, this assignment requires a qualified Accountant, with proven exposure managing and developing finance teams in the charity sector.

Duties will be largely transactional, demanding recent experience of payroll, VAT, management accounts, budgeting, and forecasting.

Please note, this is a temporary position paid on a weekly PAYE basis. This role will start quickly, so sadly candidates with a lengthy notice period cannot be considered.
