Summary: The Head of DNS Engineering at Nominet is responsible for leading a core technology engineering team focused on delivering industry-leading Domain Name Systems. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead DNS Engineering Department
  • Manage and mentor several teams of engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment
  • Provide technical expertise, guide the design, implementation, and operation of DNS products and services
  • Work with DNS protocol expert architects and engineers to ensure alignment in products and services
  • Define the strategy for DNS products and services in collaboration with the CTO and product team
  • Deliver DNS projects on time, within budget, and to high-quality standards
  • Ensure DNS services meet or exceed SLAs for uptime and performance
  • Represent the organization in global DNS operations forums
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure DNS services are integrated with broader infrastructure
  • Focus on recruitment, development, and retention of top talent within the DNS team

Key Skills:

  • 7+ years of engineering experience; 3+ years of senior leadership experience
  • Expertise in DNS architecture, protocols (DNSSEC, DoH/T/Q), and nameserver implementations
  • Deep understanding of DNS security practices, including DNSSEC and DDoS mitigation
  • Strong knowledge of networking principles related to DNS
  • Experience with BGP for delivering DNS services via IPAnycast
  • Enterprise architecture mindset and experience
  • Experience with data and analytics, near real-time systems, and streaming systems
  • Knowledge of product development life cycle and Agile methodology
  • Hands-on experience with large scale distributed systems and cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
  • Programming experience with multiple languages (C, C++, C#, Scala, Java, Python)
