About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Head of Data, AI and Automation Products to lead a multi-disciplinary team driving the production and scaling of cutting-edge Data, AI, and Automation solutions.

Aligned with the Government Digital and Data Profession Capability Framework, this role is pivotal in converting proven prototypes into robust, production-grade, and scalable MVPs that address high-priority strategic challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Portfolio & Product Leadership: Accountable for a portfolio of projects taking products through beta phases to build scalable MVPs across data, AI, and automation.
  • Strategic Alignment: Work closely with senior leaders and data heads to align product roadmaps with overarching organizational goals and digital strategies.
  • Standards & Team Development: Coach, manage, and empower a team of product and portfolio managers, setting high standards for agile and lean product practices across the life cycle.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a key liaison for executive stakeholders, simplifying complex technical concepts, managing high-risk expectations, and negotiating delivery priorities.
  • Governance & Delivery: Ensure all projects are governed, delivered, and monitored in accordance with agreed organizational frameworks to deliver early, incremental value.

Essential Criteria:

  • Data & AI Program Delivery: Proven track record delivering a strategic portfolio of complex data and AI projects.
  • Agile Lifecycle Expertise: Deep, expert-level understanding of the complete product life cycle (specifically for data/AI) using iterative, agile methods to deliver value early.
  • Emerging Technologies: Broad and deep knowledge of innovative data, AI, and automation technologies.
  • Senior Stakeholder Management: Demonstrable ability to mediate tough discussions, manage executive expectations, and translate technical concepts for non-technical leadership.

Key Leadership Capabilities:

  • Agile & User-Centred Advocacy: Expert in Agile/Lean methodologies and driving user-centric insights into strategic product decisions.
  • Value Creation: Strong commercial mindset with experience developing and iterating business cases focused on value for money.
