Summary: The Hardware Engineering Manager for Maritime Systems will lead multidisciplinary engineering teams in the North West England area, focusing on the full systems engineering lifecycle. This role requires a strong background in hardware engineering within the maritime domain, ensuring compliance with established engineering standards. The successful candidate will oversee hardware design, integration, verification, and qualification activities while providing technical leadership and mentoring to engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the hardware engineering function across multiple maritime projects, ensuring robust design, integration, and verification of hardware systems.
- Apply and oversee the Systems Engineering V-Model (IEC 15288) across all project phases—requirements capture, design, integration, validation, and verification.
- Define and enforce entry/exit criteria and review milestones at each stage of the development lifecycle.
- Manage the definition and decomposition of system and product requirements, ensuring they are testable, traceable, and linked to verification evidence.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to hardware and systems engineers, fostering adherence to engineering best practices and configuration control.
- Oversee the integration of COTS components with bespoke designs, ensuring reliability, maintainability, and compliance with maritime standards and certifications.
- Engage in design reviews, risk assessments, and qualification activities to ensure engineering rigour and delivery quality.
- Collaborate with programme, systems, and test engineering teams to deliver integrated, mission-ready maritime hardware solutions.
Key Skills:
- Active SC Clearance (mandatory).
- Proven track record in hardware engineering management within the maritime or defence sector.
- Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, particularly the IEC 15288 lifecycle and V-model methodology.
- Demonstrable experience in requirements definition, decomposition, and validation.
- Experience managing the integration of COTS and bespoke hardware solutions into complex systems.
- Background in hardware design, test, qualification, and certification within a safety- or mission-critical environment.

We are seeking an experienced Hardware Engineering Manager with a strong background in the maritime domain , capable of leading multidisciplinary engineering teams through the full systems engineering lifecycle. The successful candidate will bring both technical authority and delivery oversight , ensuring that hardware design, integration, verification, and qualification activities are aligned with established engineering standards and lifecycle processes (IEC 15288). This role requires someone who can move beyond the circuit board level to manage and integrate COTS and bespoke hardware solutions into complex maritime systems.

- Knowledge of Def Stan, MIL-STD , or maritime environmental standards .
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards it.
- Familiarity with Defence and Security sector engineering governance and assurance frameworks.
