Summary: The H100 Fife Operations Maintenance Technician (E&I) role is a fixed-term position focused on the safe commissioning and maintenance of plant and equipment at the H100 Hydrogen Production and Storage site. The technician will be responsible for electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. This role requires collaboration with process operators and oversight of on-site spare management. Key Responsibilities:
- Cover electrical, instrumentation and mechanical fault finding, troubleshooting, repairs, and planned preventative maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements (SHE, DSEAR, COSHH, PSSR, SEPA etc).
- Prepare plant and equipment for maintenance, including safe isolation and reinstatement of plant.
- Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives and preventative actions.
- Manage on-site spares and maintain control of the store.
- Create and improve site operating procedures and documentation.
- Play a key role in the commissioning of the H100 project and transition to steady-state operations.
Key Skills:
- E&I apprenticeship or demonstrable equivalent experience.
- Experience as a Maintenance Technician in a high-risk manufacturing plant (Oil & Gas, Chemical, Pharmaceutical, etc.).
- Strong health and safety ethos.
- Competence in working with automated systems / SCADA / CMMS / EPTW.
- Experience in writing and implementing local site operating procedures (SOPs).
- Full and valid UK driving licence.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility and commitment to support project goals.
- Desirable: Previous Hydrogen experience, knowledge of the gas network, 18th Edition and Compex 1-4 Inspection & Testing, HV switching experience, contractor supervision skills.

We are looking for an experienced Maintenance Technician with an E&I bias to come and join our established team. You will use your skill set to ensure the safe commissioning and maintenance of all plant and equipment for the H100 Hydrogen Production and Storage (P&S) site, whilst putting your ‘stamp’ on how this unique site is developed. This role will report to the H100 Production Engineering Manager who oversees the delivery of all upstream aspects of H100 Fife Production & Storage site. We deliver safety, warmth, and comfort to homes and businesses. Every role, whether in the office or on the front line, plays a key part in this mission.
Here’s how you will contribute…
- Cover electrical, instrumentation and mechanical, fault finding, troubleshooting, repairs, and planned preventative maintenance, ensuring continuity of supply to our customers.
- Ensure that all legislative and regulatory requirements are met (SHE, DSEAR, COSHH, PSSR, SEPA etc) and that all planned preventative maintenance tasks and servicing are completed as per the schedule.
- In conjunction with the Process Operators, prepare plant and equipment for maintenance purposes, including safe isolation and reinstatement of plant (SIRP), issuing permits, and control of contractors.
- Lead and support improvements through CI initiatives and preventative actions.
- Oversee management of the on-site spares, ensuring that the store is well maintained and controlled.
- Create and continually improve site operating procedures and documentation.
- Play an integral role in the safe and successful commissioning of the H100 project and transition to steady-state operations.
Essential What you will need
- E&I apprenticeship or demonstratable equivalent experience.
- Demonstratable experience as a Maintenance Technician (or equivalent) with in a high-risk manufacturing plant such as Oil & Gas, Chemical, Pharmaceutical, etc.
- Exceptional health and safety ethos.
- Highly competent in working with automated systems / SCADA / CMMS / EPTW
- Experience of writing, developing and implementing local site operating procedures (SOP’s).
- A full and valid UK driving licence.
- Comfortable working alone as well as a part of a team.
- Committed and flexible, with a willingness to undertake additional tasks to support the overall project goals.
Desirable
- Previous Hydrogen (or other gas) experience.
- Knowledge and understanding of the gas network/industry.
- 18th Edition and Compex 1-4 Inspection & Testing – City & Guilds 2391
- HV switching / authorised person
- Commissioning and/or operational experience.
- Previous emergency response training.
- Contractor supervision and control of work, including issuing of permits, plant preparation, safe isolation & reinstatement of plant.
- Competent in working with PLC systems and general fault-finding on electrical circuits.
- Demonstratable experience of developing and supporting others, whether other engineers/technicians and/or site operators.
