Education Required High school diploma or equivalent; commercial pesticide license/certification within six months of hire; valid PA Driver’s License Education Preferred Experience Required 2 years of grounds maintenance experience required Experience Preferred Skills, Characteristics Required For Position Good knowledge of grounds maintenance procedures: tree pruning, mowing, mulching, tree removal, edging beds, blowing, weeding, and using backpack sprayer. Ability to operate standard grounds equipment: tractor, mower, front mount mower, gator, weed whip, chain saw, leaf blower. Ability to work with limited supervision and be a self-motivated team player able to motivate, supervise and encourage a small team. Excellent time management skills, strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize projects. Basic computer skills including the use of campus e-mail system and software programs used to perform job. Special Working Conditions Employee must be mentally and physically able to perform all essential job functions which includes normal range of motion, reading, pushing, pulling, lifting (75 lbs or more), and moving heavy equipment or materials. Must be able to work outdoors in all weather and temperatures. This position is essential; employees providing essential services must report to work as scheduled by their supervisor in the event of an emergency closing or delay. In the event of a snowstorm, this position may be responsible for off-hours snow removal. Driving Requirements This position requires the operation of a Messiah College owned or leased vehicle and the employee must possess and maintain a current driver’s license, meet the established criteria, and abide by all policies and procedures as presented in the College’s Fleet Vehicle Use Policy. Essential Employee Essential - Emergency Only Primary Duties Perform routine grounds maintenance: mowing, weed whipping, trimming, pruning, mulching, chipping, tree and shrub removal, blowing, and weeding. Coordinate fall leaf removal program Maintain clear operation of storm drain system. Maintain clean appearance of campus to include (but not limited to) blowing off walkways, sweeping gutters, removing debris from various areas, etc. Provide coverage for snow removal in winter months. Police grounds for trash and debris. Assist with seasonal duties such as transfer of equipment, Christmas decorations, removal of tarps, watering, commencement preparation, event set-up and preparation.
