Summary: The role of Category Manager - Software involves leading the transformation of technology procurement for a global investment banking client. This position focuses on the implementation of a new Target Operating Model (TOM) for software sourcing, requiring collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance vendor management and procurement processes. Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the global rollout of a new TOM for technology sourcing, with specific ownership of the Software category.
  • Act as the primary interface between the programme team and existing category/vendor management teams, helping to align current-state activities with future-state operating models.
  • Contribute to the design and documentation of new workflows, governance structures, roles/responsibilities, and engagement models across the software sourcing life cycle.
  • Provide hands-on support to ensure continuity of procurement execution during the transitional phase, particularly across renewals, negotiations, and key vendor interactions.
  • Identify process inefficiencies and Legacy constraints that may hinder adoption of the TOM; propose mitigations and lead practical change efforts.
  • Work closely with global and regional stakeholders (Procurement, Technology, Legal, Risk) to ensure alignment with strategic and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide SME input on licensing, commercial models, and software procurement best practices as needed to shape the TOM in line with real-world constraints.

Key Skills:

  • Demonstrable experience in Global sourcing, procurement or category management within large, matrixed organisations-ideally financial services or similarly regulated industries.
  • Strong exposure to operating model design and transformation, ideally within a global function or sourcing environment.
  • Expertise in managing large software vendor relationships (eg Microsoft, Oracle, SAP), with an understanding of commercial, contractual, and licensing complexity.
  • Change-focused mindset with the ability to operate effectively in transitional, ambiguous, or evolving business environments.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills across technical and commercial teams.
  • Certifications/memberships such as CIPS will be highly advantageous.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and financial industry regulations.

6 months Rolling Contract Our leading global investment banking client is seeking a highly capable Category Manager - Software to play a critical role in the delivery of its global Target Operating Model (TOM) for technology procurement. This is a transformation-focused contract supporting the redesign and implementation of new sourcing structures, governance models, and workflows for the management of Tier 1 software vendors (Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, etc.).
