Summary: The Geotechnical Engineer at SYSTRA will play a crucial role in delivering Geotechnical Construction Phase Support (CPS) for the HS2 route, collaborating with designers and contract partners. Context

We are looking for a Geotechnical engineer to be part of a team delivering the Geotechnical Construction Phase Support (CPS) on the HS2 route. The role will require being part of the team delivering the Geotechnical CPS scope within a design area liaising with the technical lead and reporting to the Discipline lead.

Missions/Main Duties

Working In Collaboration With Our Designers And Contract Partners, The Geotechnical Engineer Will Be Involved In a Variety Of Tasks Such As

  • Inspection and Test Plans (ITP) – Secondary Assurance/Check
  • Reviewing ITPs and identify/recommend DJV witnessing requirements of contractor (Client) testing and inspections for design verification.
  • Representing the DJV through attendance on site to witness a sample of client inspections and testing
  • Undertaking sample reviews of construction records
  • Ensure DJV’s site observation reports and construction record reviews are maintained and auditable.
  • Field Change Requests (FCRs)- Technical Support undertaking the review and response to site technical queries.
  • Adhere to the internal assurance process associated with design changes.
  • Inform client of the need for external assurance process associated with design change.
  • Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs)
  • Provide response to NCRs (and/or facilitate DJV design team support).
  • Inform client of the need for external assurance process associated with proposed solutions to non-conformances.
  • Instrumentation and Monitoring (I&M)
  • Analyse and interpret monitoring data provided by the Contractor and provide as needed technical support.
  • Attend regular I&M meetings with the client and HS2.
  • Provide design mitigation in the event of trigger breaches or unexpected data trend during the execution of works.
  • Manage the undertaking of earthworks and geotechnical data logging
  • Slope geological inspections/mapping in cuts and bulk excavations for retained cuts, retaining walls, portals, and shafts.
  • Formation geological inspections for retained cuts, retaining walls, portals, shafts, and bridging structures with shallow foundations (inc. box structures).
  • Geotechnical Feedback Report (GFR)
  • Contribute to the production Geotechnical Feedback Reports by checking reports and supporting junior members of staff in writing feedback reports.
