Job Summary The role of the General Practice Assistant (GPA) is to support the GP surgery. As part of our multi-disciplinary team, you will be required to support the practice team by carrying out administrative duties combined with some basic clinical duties. The Role Will Support In Improving patient access and supporting the GPs in treating and managing patients with more complex conditions Improving patient flow within surgery, increasing the efficiency of appointments; supporting patient experience by translating or reiterating information from the GP

Main duties of the job The duties of a GPA are diverse, encompassing both clinical and administrative responsibilities. The GPA act's as a key support figure within the general practice team. Below Are The Core Duties Performed By a GPA

Administrative Support - A significant part of a GPA role is handling administrative tasks to ensure the practice runs efficiently. In addition to administrative tasks, GPAs provide basic clinical support, though their clinical responsibilities are typically limited to routine tasks that do not require extensive medical training such as phlebotomy, blood pressure checks and urine dipstick tests. GPAs play a crucial role in improving the overall efficiency of the practice. By handling routine tasks, they enable GPs and nurses to focus on more complex clinical care. This can reduce appointment times, streamline patient flow, and enhance the patient experience. Effective communication is critical to the GPA role. a GPA is frequently required to liaise between different healthcare professionals, patients, and external organisations.

About Us We are a long standing, busy inner city surgery based across two sites. We currently have around 21000 patients with a large student population based at the Nottingham Trent University and a smaller diverse population at our Radford site. We are keen to attract a caring, motivated, and passionate colleague to join our team on a fixed term contract until 31.03.2026. This may be extended beyond March 2026 dependant on funding
