Summary: The GCP Applications Operator role involves building, deploying, and supporting applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) within a secure UK government environment. The position requires active security clearance and entails working in a hybrid model with three days on-site. The operator will manage deployments, monitor services, and maintain security policies while collaborating across engineering and security teams. This is a high-impact role focused on delivering large-scale cloud infrastructure solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build, deploy and support applications across GCP (GKE, Cloud Functions, Compute Engine, App Engine)
- Operate within secure/disconnected (air-gapped) environments
- Monitor services using Cloud Monitoring, Logging, and Trace
- Manage deployments via CI/CD pipelines
- Maintain IAM roles, service accounts and security policies (least privilege)
- Support application migrations, testing and releases
- Carry out BAU ops: patching, performance checks, config updates
- Produce documentation (runbooks, LLDs)
Key Skills:
- Strong hands-on experience with GCP engineering and operations
- Experience with Google Distributed Cloud (GDC)
- Knowledge of IAM, networking, and secure system design
- Experience with Kubernetes/GKE and containerised workloads
- Strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and automation
- Experience working in regulated or secure environments
- Ability to work across engineering, architecture and security teams
