Summary: The Functional Skills Tutor role involves teaching, coaching, assessing, and supporting learners in achieving their qualifications in English and Maths at Level 1 & 2. The position requires delivering face-to-face courses to apprentices and providing additional guidance as an Apprenticeship Support Coach. The role is based in Lyneham, Wiltshire, and is fixed-term for 12 months. Candidates must have relevant teaching qualifications and experience in apprenticeship programs or the defence sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver Functional Skills English and Maths, adapting lessons to meet learner needs.
- Support and motivate learners, including those with SPLDs or neurodiverse requirements.
- Plan and prepare lessons, assessments, and learning resources.
- Conduct invigilation and assessments in line with ESFA, Ofsted, and awarding organisation requirements.
- Track and report learner progress accurately.
- Build strong working relationships with colleagues across delivery, quality, and compliance teams.
- Maintain CPD and contribute ideas to enhance teaching and learning.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Safeguarding, Equality & Diversity, and company policies.
Key Skills:
- Certificate in Education & Training (or equivalent).
- Functional Skills English and Maths Level 2 or GCSEs in Maths and English (Grade 4–9 / C or above).
- Previous experience of teaching Functional Skills.
- Experience in apprenticeship programmes or defence sector.
- Ability to support learners with diverse needs.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to continuous professional development.

About the Role
Join a leading organisation supporting UK defence infrastructure and delivering programmes across Salisbury and Wiltshire. In this role, you will teach, coach, assess, and support learners , helping them achieve their qualifications and reach their full potential. We are looking for an experienced Functional Skills Tutor to deliver face-to-face English and Maths courses (Level 1 & 2) to apprentices (cohorts up to 16 learners). The position also involves acting as an Apprenticeship Support Coach , providing extra guidance to ensure learners stay on track and succeed.
