Summary: The Front-End Developer role in Bristol involves designing and maintaining responsive user interfaces using React and Next.js. Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain modern, responsive user interfaces using React, Next.js, TypeScript and contemporary frontend tooling.
- Work closely with backend engineers to integrate APIs and deliver cohesive, end-to-end user journeys.
- Continuously refine UI performance, scalability, accessibility, and usability.
- Support junior developers through mentoring, code reviews, and hands-on guidance.
- Lead technical conversations within the frontend space and help establish shared best practices.
- Collaborate with design and product teams to turn ideas into refined, production-ready experiences.
- Influence frontend architectural decisions, including state management approaches, performance optimisation, and code structure.
- Assess and introduce new libraries, frameworks, or tools where they provide clear value.
- Ensure frontend solutions remain maintainable and scalable as the platform evolves.
- Define and apply testing approaches across unit, integration, and end-to-end layers.
- Monitor and improve frontend performance, SEO, and Core Web Vitals, particularly within Next.js applications.
- Diagnose and resolve complex cross-browser and cross-device issues.
Key Skills:
- Previous experience of commercial frontend development, with strong hands-on experience in React and Next.js.
- Excellent knowledge of JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS and modern frontend ecosystems.
- Experience using state management solutions such as Redux, Zustand, Recoil, or similar.
- Solid understanding of responsive design, accessibility standards, and UI/UX principles.
- Previous experience mentoring developers or leading frontend initiatives.
- Familiarity with modern build tooling (e.g. Webpack, Vite, Turbopack) and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
- Nice to have: Experience working with design systems or component libraries such as Tailwind, MUI, or Storybook.
- Exposure to backend or full-stack development, including Node.js, serverless platforms, or API design.
- Hands-on experience with performance profiling, SEO optimisation, and Core Web Vitals.
- Knowledge of testing tools such as Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress or Playwright.
