Summary: Buster Books is seeking an experienced freelance editor to join their team in Clapham, South London, for three days a week. The role involves editing and project managing children's non-fiction titles, supporting the editorial team with various tasks, and adapting content for the US market. Candidates should have at least five years of children's editorial experience and a good knowledge of InDesign.
Key Responsibilities:
- Independently editing and project managing a range of Buster titles, including puzzle and activity books, full-colour reference and colouring books.
- Supporting the in-house editorial team with proofreading, copy-editing, fact-checking, puzzle testing, writing illustration and puzzle briefs, and other general day-to-day editorial tasks.
- Working primarily on children’s non-fiction (7–12 age range) but experience of picture books and middle-grade fiction would be desirable.
- Working closely with the in-house design team.
- Americanizing books for the US market.
Key Skills:
- At least five years’ children’s editorial experience.
- Excellent eye for accuracy and detail.
- Good knowledge of InDesign.
- Experience of Photoshop is desirable but not essential.

Buster Books is the award-winning children’s imprint of Michael O’Mara Books. We love to create quirky non-fiction books for curious and creative children. We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic freelance editor with an excellent eye for accuracy and detail to join our friendly team. At least five years’ children’s editorial experience is required. Candidates must have a good knowledge of InDesign. Experience of Photoshop is desirable but not essential.
THE ROLE: We are looking for an editor to join us in-house 3 days per week (Tues–Thurs) in our offices in Clapham, South London. Hours are negotiable but we are looking for an editor to work 6 hours per day, ideally covering our core hours of 10am to 4pm. The successful candidate will work on a range of children’s non-fiction projects to support the in-house team. This may involve:
