Summary: The FPGA Engineer role involves leading engineering activities within a defence consultancy's Integrated FPGA Product Team. The successful candidate will manage a team of FPGA engineers, define work packages, and ensure project outcomes are delivered successfully. This position requires strong technical leadership and collaboration with various stakeholders to meet project goals. Applicants must be Sole British Nationals and possess active Security Clearance due to the nature of the work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the engineering aspects of FPGA projects or product lines, managing a team of engineers to deliver project outcomes
  • Define and communicate clear expectations for engineering outcomes, ensuring consistency with policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineering leaders to ensure project planning, cost, and schedule are met
  • Oversee the completion of project outcomes to quality, cost, and schedule, reporting progress and risks as needed
  • Foster an effective dialogue with stakeholders, including project managers, systems design authorities, and FPGA teams
  • Provide technical leadership and support to FPGA teams, including day-to-day technical queries and hands-on troubleshooting

Key Skills:

  • Proven experience in FPGA engineering management and delivery of projects
  • Engineering or scientific degree qualification (or equivalent)
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Experience of developing FPGA using VHDL or Verilog
  • Experienced with Mentor Graphics FPGA development tools, including HDL Designer, ModelSim / Questa, and Precision
  • Familiarity with Xilinx / Intel (Altera) / Microsemi (Actel) design flows and third-party synthesis tools
  • Experience in specifying timing and area constraints for efficient FPGA place and route
  • Independent verification using VHDL
  • Experience of FPGA requirements capture and requirements management tools
  • Good understanding of FPGA version control and revision control software
  • Ability to coordinate day-to-day technical activities and make technical decisions

  • Development of real-time, embedded, safety-critical FPGA, preferably in accordance with RTCA/DO-254 DAL A/B or below
  • Electronic Warfare or RF Systems experience
  • Defence domain experience or relevant experience in the Aerospace industry
  • New Product Introduction experience
  • Independent verification using SystemVerilog / UVM
  • Experience with embedded processor cores (e.g. ARM) in FPGA designs
