Summary: The Food Technologist role involves overseeing technical aspects of new product development projects within a dynamic company that supplies bespoke products to various retailers. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with food safety regulations and work closely with both internal teams and external customers. This position requires occasional travel to meet with UK-based clients and demands a strong background in food technology and product development. The role is hybrid, allowing for remote work with some office visits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Food technical product development, safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Ensuring all technical aspects of a project are completed, including safety assessments, product performance testing, regulatory compliance, and legal checks.
- Preparation and submission of product specifications and quality contracts with customers and manufacturing suppliers.
- Single point of contact on a day-to-day basis for customer technical managers.
- Checking product artwork, packaging, and labelling for compliance with relevant legislation.
- Completing IPAFFS for food imports where necessary.
- Working closely with internal product and commercial teams to ensure all technical requirements are applied during the NPD process and new launches.
- Reviewing production paperwork to release production batches for delivery.
- Investigating and reporting on customer complaints and non-conformances.
- Attending conferences, exhibitions, and trade shows to stay updated on innovations and opportunities.
Key Skills:
- Minimum of 5 years of technical product development and delivery to market.
- Retail or retail supplier experience and/or brand development experience.
- Excellent people, presentation, and communication skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Good working knowledge of food safety, food legislation, quality management systems, HACCP, BRC, allergen controls.
- Experience with Food Supplements is a definite advantage.
- Preferred: bachelor’s degree in food science or equivalent.
- Preferred: experience in customer-facing technical product development role.
- Preferred: working knowledge of retailer ethical trading requirements, internal auditing, third-party and retailer accreditation systems and codes of practice.

We have offices in the UK and HK and work with a diverse portfolio of retailers supplying bespoke products within various food & non-food categories. The successful candidate will consult with food technologists at both retailers and manufacturing sites worldwide. The successful candidate will have overall technical responsibility for delivering successful new product development projects; ensuring all key technical elements of a project are diligently completed in full consultation with customers. The role may from time to time involve travel to meet with UK based customers.
