Summary: The role of Contract Firmware Engineer involves joining a skilled engineering team in Luton to develop high-quality firmware for complex digital and FPGA-based systems. Key Responsibilities:
- Designing and delivering high-quality firmware for complex digital and FPGA-based systems
- Translating system requirements into detailed firmware requirements and architectures
- Developing firmware using model-driven engineering approaches (MATLAB/Simulink)
- Working across the full development lifecycle within a structured, safety-critical environment
- Collaborating within multi-disciplinary teams, including systems, hardware, and software engineers
Key Skills:
- FPGA and firmware design using tools such as Xilinx, TCL, Verilog, SystemVerilog, and UVM
- Experience with FPGA architectures including Xilinx 7 Series, UltraScale, Intel (Altera), or Microsemi (Actel)
- High-speed interfaces: PCIe, Ethernet, JESD
- Model-driven engineering and auto-generated code (MATLAB/Simulink)
- Structured firmware development approaches (eg RTCA DO-254 or similar)
- Knowledge of cryptography and anti-tamper techniques
- Exposure to AI techniques, including machine learning and genetic algorithms
- Strong understanding of electronics test methods and equipment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively within mixed-discipline team
- Qualifications: HNC/HND or Degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, AI, Games Programming, or similar (or equivalent experience gained through hands-on industry work)
