Financial Modeller 3 month Contract | £500 p/d (umbrella) | Approx. 80 days | Hybrid
We're supporting a major transformation programme within a large finance function and are looking for an experienced Financial Modeller / Excel Developer to join a specialist team focused on improving spreadsheet governance, reducing spreadsheet risk, and implementing best practices across a complex financial estate.
This is a highly visible project with significant senior stakeholder engagement.
You'll work alongside an experienced Senior Financial Modeller, helping to identify, assess, and mitigate risks within critical financial models used across multiple finance disciplines.
The Opportunity
As part of a dedicated programme, you'll play a key role in improving the quality, reliability, and governance of a large portfolio of financial spreadsheets.
The project involves:
- Collating and assessing key financial models across the business
- Performing spreadsheet Verification & Validation (V&V) reviews
- Identifying spreadsheet risks and control weaknesses
- Taking corrective action to address identified issues
- Implementing governance, version control, and best-practice standards
- Supporting the redesign and redevelopment of complex spreadsheet models
- Helping drive long-term improvements in modelling standards and spreadsheet architecture
The spreadsheet estate supports a large finance organisation covering:
- Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
- Tax
- Payroll
- Leasing
- Intercompany Accounting
- Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) operations
What You'll Be Working With:
Complex financial models
Extensive VBA and macro-driven processes
Advanced Power Query solutions
Integrations with Power BI reporting
Large data sets and complex data transformations
Legacy spreadsheets requiring redesign and simplification
Spreadsheet environments with significant governance and control requirements
Work may range from
a complete rebuild of a poorly designed financial model through to improving documentation, controls, user guidance, and process clarity.
What We're Looking For
We are seeking a genuine Excel financial modelling specialist who can confidently work within highly complex spreadsheet environments. You should have:
- Essential Skills
- Advanced Excel expertise
- Strong VBA development and support experience
- Excellent Power Query knowledge
- Experience reviewing, debugging and improving complex spreadsheet models
- Strong understanding of spreadsheet controls, governance and risk management
- Experience applying financial modelling best practices
- Ability to understand and document complex business logic
- Strong stakeholder communication skills
- Financial modelling experience within large corporate environments
- Knowledge of the ICAEW Spreadsheet Competency Framework
- Experience conducting spreadsheet audits or model reviews
- Exposure to Power BI
- Experience working within finance transformation programmes
