About the Organisation
Market Forces is a not-for-profit organisation campaigning to protect the environment by shifting finance away from fossil fuel activities that are driving climate change. We focus on banks, pension funds and other investors that finance environmentally risky and damaging activities. Shifting investment to a clean energy revolution is what is needed to secure a stable climate in the long term. Our team campaigns on the most egregious examples of fossil fuel polluters in Australia, Asia and beyond, wherever we can make the best interventions to shift finance away from the expansion of dirty fossil fuels.
About the Job
The Asia Energy Finance Campaigner will lead strategy and outputs for Japan-focused finance campaigns, collaborating with colleagues in Japan and across the wider Asia region. The position plays a central role in shaping and implementing strategies to shift financial flows away from fossil fuels and towards solutions that mitigate climate change.
Key responsibilities include developing and executing campaign strategies, engaging with stakeholders in the financial sector, and producing compelling communications to build momentum for change. The role involves working in a dynamic, collaborative, and supportive team environment, requiring strong organisational skills, initiative, and resilience. The Campaigner will report to the Director of Asia Energy Finance and work alongside other campaigners focused on the financial sector in Asia. This is a one-year contract with the possibility of extension.
This role is part of the Climate Finance Fellowship , a 12-month program designed to bridge the talent gap in the climate finance sector. The Fellowship supports mid-career finance professionals who are looking to transition into purpose-driven, climate-focused work—particularly within nonprofit and civil society organizations across the Global South. Fellows are placed within high-impact host organizations, where they take on a core finance or strategy role. In addition to this placement, Fellows join a cohort-based learning journey that includes:
- Tailored climate and leadership development modules
- One-on-one coaching and mentorship
- Peer learning and community exchange
- Access to professional networks in climate and development
The Fellowship is led by Surge Climate Talent (SCT), with program design and implementation managed by Global Good x Amani (GG x Amani), an impact consulting and leadership development firm. Together, SCT and GG x Amani are working to ensure that host organizations are supported, Fellows are set up for success, and the program contributes meaningfully to strengthening the climate finance ecosystem.
This opportunity is especially suited for professionals from the private or public sectors with strong finance experience who may not yet have worked in climate or nonprofit contexts. It is also open to those currently in the nonprofit sector seeking to specialize in climate finance.
