Summary: The Financial Accountant role focuses on IFRS 16 and balance sheet integrity within a leading transport organization in London. The position requires a qualified accountant to manage financial reporting, statutory accounts, and compliance in a regulated environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial statements and supporting the finance team with various reporting tasks. This is a permanent position with hybrid working arrangements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of periodic balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely resolution of issues
- Lead IFRS 16 accounting, including lease recognition, ongoing measurement, and disclosures in line with statutory requirements
- Manage the preparation of statutory accounts and annual audit deliverables, acting as the key point of contact for external auditors
- Support the delivery of cashflow reporting and assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Oversee submissions for VAT, PSA, Corporation Tax, and ORR reporting, ensuring compliance with external deadlines
- Provide technical accounting support to the business, advising on complex areas and assisting in the application of new or revised standards
- Maintain strong internal controls and contribute to continuous process improvements within financial reporting
- Support the Financial Reporting Manager with ad hoc analysis, reporting, and team development initiatives
Key Skills:
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with strong post-qualification experience in financial reporting
- Demonstrable experience working with IFRS 16 and managing end-to-end balance sheet reconciliations
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, regulated environment with multiple stakeholders
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, basic modelling); knowledge of SAP, SAP BI or BPC is a plus
- Strong attention to detail, independent working style, and confident communication skills
- Solid experience and knowledge with IFRS 16 and balance sheet reconciliations is an essential requirement for this role
