Summary: The Financial Accountant role involves managing all aspects of financial accounting, including statutory reporting, treasury, and tax returns, within a hybrid working environment in Leicester. The successful candidate will also supervise assistant accountants and contribute to the improvement of finance processes. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract starting on 1st June 2026.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate interim and year-end statutory audits and produce regulatory returns.
  • Complete month-end processes and produce accurate month-end reports.
  • Manage fixed asset register and prepare monthly Management and Service Fee true ups.
  • Ensure compliance with taxation regulations and manage corporation tax schedules.
  • Supervise and mentor two assistant accountants and ensure clean bank reconciliations.
  • Implement adequate financial controls and contribute to finance process improvements.

Key Skills:

  • Qualified Accountant with financial accounts and tax experience.

Hybrid working in our modern Leicester City centre office

We have an opportunity for a Financial Accountant to join our team. To manage all aspects of financial accounting for the company including statutory reporting, treasury, income statements, balance sheets and tax returns. To deputise for the Financial Controller when required.

What you will be doing

Statutory Audits

  • Coordinate interim and year-end statutory audits.
  • Respond to requests from auditors and resolve any queries in order for the audits to be completed on time.
  • Produce regulatory returns and year-end statutory accounts and complete audit files.

Month End

  • Complete relevant month-end processes in a timely manner and produce accurate month-end reports.
  • This includes preparation of month-end journals and balance sheet reconciliations for a number of accounts.
  • Own the fixed asset register and relevant postings.
  • Prepare and post the monthly Management and Service Fee true ups and prepare the quarterly invoices.
  • Prepare the loan interest calculation and manage the quarterly loan repayment and interest payment process.
  • Prepare monthly cash flow reports and assist with forecast and budget.

Revenue Distribution to Parents

  • Distribute licensing revenue to parents, on a weekly and monthly basis.

Tax and VAT

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant statutory taxation regulations.
  • Manage the preparation of corporation tax schedules.
  • Provide information to our external advisor to enable them to complete the corporation tax calculations and returns on our behalf.
  • Ensure full compliance with HMRC guidelines around expenses and employee benefits.
  • Prepare and file the PSA return.
  • Prepare and file quarterly VAT returns.
  • Monitor and review changes in tax legislation and manage the implementation of necessary changes.

Other

  • Supervise and mentor two assistant accountants.
  • Work with the assistant accountant to ensure the bank reconciliations are clean and unreconciled items are investigated in a timely manner.
  • Complete ONS as necessary.
  • Allocate interest on debt received by solicitors from customers between the parent entities.
  • Other adhoc tasks as required.

Processes and Controls

  • Proactively ensure adequate financial controls are implemented across the departments
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of finance processes through identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing changes

You will have

  • Qualified Accountant with prior Financial Accounts and Tax experience
  • Background working within a Finance department in a commercial organisation or alternatively a mix of practice and industry experience
  • Minimum 2 years of holding a relevant financial accounting position
  • Experience with tax, interpreting tax legislation and liaising with tax authorities
  • Experience in using accounting / tax software
