Financial Accountant 12 Months FTC

We are looking for an Financial Accountant to join the Finance team in a Energy Business based in London. This is 12-month fixed-term contract and is an excellent opportunity for an accountant with strong technical accounting expertise who enjoys remaining close to the detail and taking ownership of day-to-day financial operations.

Working within a fast-paced energy trading environment, you will support the General Ledger function while providing technical accounting guidance on complex transactions. This role requires someone who is equally comfortable with hands-on bookkeeping and month-end activities as they are interpreting and applying IFRS accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day financial accounting and bookkeeping activities.
• Maintain accurate General Ledger records, including journal postings and reconciliations.
• Lead month-end close and support management reporting.
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances.
• Apply technical accounting guidance to new and complex transactions.
• Support accounting for energy trading activities and related financial instruments.
• Ensure compliance with IFRS and internal accounting policies.
• Work closely with auditors and key finance stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and controls.

About You

You'll be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CPA or equivalent) with a technical accounting background and the confidence to work independently.

Essential Experience

• Strong practical bookkeeping and financial accounting experience.
• Hands-on experience managing the General Ledger and month-end close.
• Knowledge of IFRS 9 (Financial Instruments).
• Experience with hedge accounting in a commercial or trading environment.
• Strong understanding of IFRS 16 (Leases).
• Ability to interpret complex accounting standards and apply them to real business scenarios.
