Key Responsibilities:

Key Skills:

Finance Manager (Stress Testing) £650.00 per day (Umbrella) Until end of year Birmingham (Hybrid) HSBC is currently seeking an experience individual to join their team as a Senior Finance Manager – Stress Testing. Within this role, you would be responsible for leading HSBC UK’s internal and external stress testing submissions, including delivery of regulatory stress tests to the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRS)

Responsibilities:

  • Lead internal and external stress test delivery: Lead the planning and execution of HSBC UK stress testing activity, including PRA-facing regulatory exercises and internal stress tests, ensuring timely, complete and robustly challenged submissions.
  • Develop and manage delivery plans: Develop complex plans and run books to monitor progress, dependencies and the critical delivery path throughout.
  • Close partnership across the Treasury Function: Partner closely with Capital, Liquidity and RRP teams to align assumptions, inputs and methodologies to support delivery of gross and net stress testing results, ensuring outputs are suitable for internal governance and regulatory review.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration: Develop effective relationships to work collaboratively with stakeholders across Treasury, Risk, Finance, and the UK business to ensure expectations and timelines are clearly understood, leading monthly engagement calls to stay abreast of changes in policies that may influence stress results.
  • Elevate the Commercial value of Stress Testing: Showcase the value of stress testing through commercial analysis such as Pricing for Stress and Capital Ratio impacts, enabling the business to ensure our strategy and risk appetite remains appropriate.
  • Produce high quality review materials: Produce clear, concise and well-evidenced review packs and governance papers that enable effective review and constructive challenge discussions through the relevant HSBC UK governance forums.
  • Solve complex problems: Solve complex problems requiring broad technical and commercial knowledge across functions, bringing the right people together to unblock delivery and land pragmatic outcomes.
  • Maintain governance and control: Ensure stress testing delivery is executed in line with agreed governance and control requirements, maintaining robust documentation, evidence packs and audit trail in conjunction with Second and Third Lines of Defence.

Experience Required:

  • Qualified accountant (or equivalent experience): ACA, ACCA, CIMA or similar.
  • Regulatory stress testing delivery experience: Demonstrable experience leading or coordinating internal and external stress test submissions (ideally PRA-facing), with a strong understanding of governance and regulatory expectations.
  • Treasury experience: Demonstrable experience within a Treasury function, with a strong understanding of capital management, liquidity and recovery planning, including how these disciplines interact with stress testing, governance and regulatory expectations.
  • Strong stakeholder management: Proven ability to build effective working relationships and deliver through influence across a matrix of stakeholder groups.
  • Commercial mindset: Commercially minded with experience in a commercial or business partnering banking role to hold confident, credible conversations with UK business colleagues (including non-specialists), translating technical stress testing topics into clear business implications, actions and decisions.
  • Presentation and Communication: Ability to present results effectively to senior stakeholders and distil complex messages into understandable plain English for non-technical colleagues. Have confidence to review, challenge and improve submissions while maintaining strong relationships.
  • Produce high-quality outputs: Proven ability to produce high-quality PowerPoint presentations for senior audiences, and to write concise, technically accurate formal governance materials, with strong attention to detail and clear audit trail.
  • Delivery discipline and control mindset: Strong planning, tracking and reporting capability (run books, RAID, milestones).
  • Problem-solving in ambiguity: Ability to navigate ambiguity, prioritise effectively and keep delivery moving at pace.
  • Tools: Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); comfort working with trackers and MI to monitor progress and dependencies.
