Summary: The Finance Manager role at a well-established charity involves overseeing financial operations during a maternity leave period. The position requires delivering accurate financial management, supporting senior leadership with strategic insights, and ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks. The successful candidate will lead a finance team and manage various financial processes, including reporting, budgeting, and audits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain timely and accurate management accounts using Xero and Excel
- Produce statutory accounts for the charity and trading company in line with SORP and Companies Act
- Manage weekly cashflow forecasts and report daily to SLT on variances
- Prepare for and support external audits
- Oversee bank reconciliations, control accounts, and credit card processes
- Generate invoices and prepare payments for authorisation
- Post monthly journals including prepayments, accruals, and deferred income
- Develop and report on annual budgets, forecasts, and departmental reports
- Lead monthly budget review meetings with managers
- Manage coding and analysis of multiple income streams (e.g., JustGiving, Stripe, Blackbaud/Raiser's Edge)
- Maintain petty cash systems and ensure banking procedures are followed
- Support the fundraising team with daily income updates
- Provide financial support and advice to managers across the charity
- Oversee payroll and pension processes in collaboration with the People Team
- Monitor and process staff expenses in line with policy
- Lead and develop the finance team, promoting high performance and addressing development needs
Key Skills:
- Recognised accountancy qualification (ACCA, CIMA, AAT or equivalent)
- Proven experience in financial management within a similar role
- Experience managing payroll and pensions (using Sage Payroll)
- Skilled in Xero, Excel, and general financial systems
- Strong understanding of charity sector financial regulations and SORP
- Ability to produce detailed financial reports for non-financial stakeholders
- Strong analytical and organisational skills
- Ability to lead a team and foster a high-performance culture
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
