Summary: The Finance Manager role is a short-term contract position based in Chester, England, focused on providing business partnering support to the Education and Inclusion service within a Local Authority. The position requires prior experience in education finance and aims to enhance service delivery and performance management through financial analysis and strategic risk assessment. The role is office-based and offers a competitive hourly rate, with potential for extension beyond the initial three months.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a specialized area of activity and lead new initiatives to evaluate costs, benefits, and risks.
- Act as the lead finance service contact for special projects to safeguard the Council’s interests.
- Provide independent challenge and analysis of financial and performance information to identify inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
- Interpret and report financial information to senior managers and stakeholders to support informed decision-making.
- Develop innovative business management approaches to enhance performance levels.
- Assess strategic and financial risks and advise officers and Members accordingly.
- Ensure business information requirements are met in management information systems.
- Promote collaborative working with other corporate services and external organizations.
Key Skills:
- Previous experience in Local Authority finance, specifically in education/schools and DSG.
- Strong analytical and interpretative skills for financial and performance information.
- Ability to communicate complex financial information effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Experience in managing projects and leading initiatives.
- Strategic risk assessment and management skills.
