Summary: The role of Finance Business Analyst involves supporting a local council's Finance Team on a 5-month contract in Birmingham. The position requires collaboration with senior finance personnel to ensure effective delivery of financial services while contributing to strategic planning and compliance with regulations. Ideal candidates will have strong financial analysis experience, particularly within the public sector or similar environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support delivery of finance services in line with agreed standards, timelines, and the Business Plan.
- Monitor and review service direction to ensure compliance with business plans and strategic objectives.
- Contribute to meeting team KPIs and improving overall service performance.
- Provide a professional customer care service and liaise with stakeholders to understand and shape future delivery needs.
- Assist in interpreting statutory regulations, Standing Orders, and Local Authority financial procedures.
- Provide advice to Budget Holders and Budget Managers to help steer budgets effectively and maximise efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with all council, directorate, accounting, and financial policies and procedures.
- Support business forecasting, long-term planning, and project planning activities.
- Assist with the implementation of statutory, local, and corporate guidelines, helping managers embed required processes across the organisation.
Key Skills:
- Experience leading activities within a finance team.
- Proven experience providing financial advice to senior officers or equivalent stakeholders.
- Strong background in managing operational stakeholder relationships.
- Skilled in preparing and presenting business documents and financial reports.
- Experience handling politically sensitive issues.
- Participation in corporate initiatives (e.g., Investors in People, implementing new financial systems or processes).
- Strong operational understanding of the legislative framework for financial services in a local government or similar environment.
- Good knowledge of management accounting, including planning, budgeting, forecasting, and performance management.
- Excellent communication, analysis, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
