Finance Analyst (local authority)

Key Responsibilities

• Produce timely and accurate financial reports for the Pension Fund, including the Annual Accounts and Annual Report.
• Reconcile the financial ledger to LGPS and Teachers' Pension contribution and payment records.
• Ensure Pension Fund income and expenditure is accurately recorded and reported.
• Investigate and resolve financial discrepancies and ledger issues.
• Provide financial monitoring information to support effective Fund management.
• Process year-end adjustments including accruals, valuations and accounting entries.
• Prepare high-quality working papers and supporting notes for Pension Fund accounts.
• Respond promptly to external and internal auditor queries.
• Complete statutory and statistical returns accurately and within required deadlines.
• Support the preparation of reports for Pension Fund Committees and Pension Boards.
• Assist with investment-related activities, including investment strategy development and transaction facilitation where required.

About You: To be successful in this role, you will have:

Essential Experience

• Experience producing financial reports, management accounts or statutory accounts
• Strong reconciliation and ledger management experience
• Knowledge of accruals, year-end processes and financial reporting
• Experience responding to audit requirements and preparing supporting documentation
• Advanced Excel skills and strong financial analysis capability
• Experience working within a local authority, pension fund, public sector or regulated finance environment
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage competing deadlines

Desirable Experience

• Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) experience
• Teachers' Pensions knowledge
• Pension Fund accounting and reporting
• CIPFA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent finance qualification/studying towards qualification
• Local Authority finance experience
