Summary: The Field Service Technician role involves hands-on work with off-highway construction machinery, focusing on electrical fault finding, diagnostics, and testing of prototype machines. The position is based fully on-site in Desford and offers an initial 12-month contract with potential long-term extensions. Candidates will collaborate closely with engineers to support new product development and maintain an electrical lab environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Electrical fault finding and diagnostics on off-highway construction machinery (diggers)
- Hands-on testing of prototype and next-generation machines on site
- Reading and interpreting electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Building, repairing, and testing electrical harnesses
- Using diagnostic tools including oscilloscopes and handheld test equipment
- Supporting validation of new electrical and electronic systems
- Maintaining an electrical lab environment (tools, equipment, compliance, and inventory)
- Working closely with engineers on new machine development projects
Key Skills:
- 5–10 years’ experience in electrical fault finding and diagnostics
- Strong hands-on experience with mobile plant / off-highway machinery OR automotive diagnostics
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and wiring diagrams
- Experience with electrical harness repair and testing
- Confident using diagnostic and test equipment (including oscilloscopes)

We’re looking for a hands-on Field Service Technician to join a specialist engineering team developing the next generation of construction machinery.
This is a rare opportunity to work directly with off-highway diggers on a live test site, getting involved in both machine testing and new product development — not just maintaining equipment, but actively helping shape future machine technology.
What will you do?
