Summary: The role is for an ETL/SQL/Azure Data Factory Test Lead with a strong SDET background, required to support data platform testing initiatives for a major independent body handling financial complaints. This is a 6-month contract position based in East London, offering a hybrid working arrangement and classified as outside IR35. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in testing, particularly with Azure Data Factory and ETL processes, and be available for an immediate start.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead testing initiatives for data platforms, focusing on ETL processes.
- Validate and test data migration across heterogeneous systems.
- Conduct hands-on testing with Azure Data Factory, including pipelines and data flows.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to ensure effective communication.
- Manage testing activities across teams, timelines, and deliverables.
- Implement case studies demonstrating hands-on experience with relevant technologies.
Key Skills:
- Experience as an SDET consultant.
- Strong understanding of ETL processes.
- Hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory.

- Proficiency in advanced SQL and DocumentDB (Cosmos DB) queries.

Your new role ETL/SQL/Azure Data Factory Test Lead - SDET - Outside IR35
What you'll need to succeed My client is looking for an interim Test Lead with an excellent SDET (Software Development Engineer in Test) background, to join in an immediately required Test Lead role.
This is an initial 6-month contract from start, hybrid in office (East London)/WFH requirement and open to contractors outside IR35.
The successful candidate will be available for interview within 5 working days, with a target start date of November 10th 2025.
You will bring the following skills/experience:
- Experience as an SDET consultant, supporting data platform testing initiatives
- Strong understanding of ETL processes - including data extraction, transformation, and loading
- Experience with database migration - validating and testing data movement across heterogeneous systems
- Hands-on testing experience with Azure Data Factory - including pipelines, triggers, and data flows
- Familiarity with Azure Synapse Analytics (formerly Azure Enterprise Data Warehouse) - understanding of data warehousing concepts and testing strategies
- Proficiency in advanced SQL and DocumentDB (Cosmos DB) queries - capable of writing, optimising, and troubleshooting complex queries for data validation
- Excellent communication skills - able to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
- Strong coordination abilities - managing testing activities across teams, timelines, and deliverables
- A proven track record of successful implementation of case studies - demonstrating hands-on experience and impact in projects involving similar technologies.
The client is looking for someone to bring the above skills into the business, with 8-10 years' of relevant experience in the field outlined and across similar client estates in Central Government/Consumer and Business Financial Support.
