Summary: The role of Environmental Manager/Ecologist involves leading environmental survey delivery and management for major Transport Scotland infrastructure projects. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a small environmental team delivering highway-related surveys and assessments.
  • Undertake and oversee a range of ecological surveys, particularly protected species (bats, badger, red squirrel, pine marten, wildcat).
  • Produce high quality technical reports, impact assessments, and mitigation strategies.
  • Support environmental monitoring and liaison with contractors.
  • Work closely with Transport Scotland, designers, engineers, and wider project teams to ensure compliance and smooth project delivery.
  • Manage project timelines, quality, and communication across internal and external stakeholders.

Key Skills:

  • Proven team management experience within ecology or environmental delivery.
  • Strong background in multi-disciplinary working, ideally on infrastructure or highways projects.
  • Confident in client liaison, project discussions, and managing expectations.
  • Experience managing environmental inputs for large scale development or transport projects.
  • Excellent written communication and reporting skills.
  • One or more protected species licences (bats, badgers, red squirrel, pine marten, Scottish wildcat) - desirable.
  • Previous experience on linear infrastructure projects - desirable.
  • Strong understanding of environmental mitigation during construction - desirable.

Your new role We are seeking an experienced Environmental Manager/ Ecologist to support two major Transport Scotland infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will lead survey delivery, reporting, mitigation design, and construction-phase environmental management. This is a key role requiring strong coordination, leadership, and the ability to engage confidently with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
