Summary: The role of Senior Environmental Consultant involves leading environmental and social planning for major infrastructure projects in the Caribbean, particularly focusing on delivering environmental and social due diligence for lender-financed developments. The consultant will support the delivery of current works and contribute to bid development for future projects. Key Responsibilities:
- Leading the development of environmental documentation and social impact plans for infrastructure bids.
- Advising the Ministry of Works (MoW) and project developers on environmental and social risks, focusing on Equator Principles (EPs) and IFC compliance.
- Coordinating with UK-based and local teams to ensure alignment with international standards and local regulations.
- Conducting EPs-compliant ESIAs and supporting ESDD site audits.
- Mentoring junior staff and fostering a collaborative, deadline-driven environment.
- Liaising with stakeholders including government bodies, consultants, and local partners.
- Supporting bid development and project delivery through strategic environmental leadership.
Key Skills:
- A degree in environmental science or a related field (BSc essential, MSc preferred).
- Chartered Environmentalist status.
- Extensive experience in environmental consulting, particularly within Caribbean or international infrastructure contexts, focusing on the Equator Principles.
- Proven ability to deliver ESIAs and ESDD aligned with IFC, World Bank, and EPs standards.
- Strong understanding of ESG frameworks and environmental/social management systems.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and complex projects under tight deadlines.
- NEC contract management experience (desirable).
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work across time zones and cultures.
- A collaborative mindset and commitment to sustainability, safety, and inclusion.

Your new company You'll be joining a reputable consultancy with a strong ethical foundation and a commitment to sustainable development. The company is supporting a long-term international infrastructure initiative in the Caribbean, focused on delivering high-quality environmental and social advisory services. With significant work secured, the client is building a dedicated in-house team to support upcoming bids and project delivery. In the meantime, they are looking for a professional freelancer to support the delivery of current works over the next 2 months, which could be extended.
Your new role As a Senior Environmental Consultant, you will play a strategic role in leading environmental and social planning efforts for major infrastructure projects in the Caribbean. You'll be part of a dynamic team delivering complex environmental and social due diligence (ESDD) for lender-financed developments, including the Glass Window Bridge replacement project on Eleuthera Island.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the development of environmental documentation and social impact plans for infrastructure bids.
- Advising the Ministry of Works (MoW) and project developers on environmental and social risks, with a focus on Equator Principles (EPs) and IFC compliance.
- Coordinating with UK-based and local teams to ensure alignment with international standards and local regulations.
