Summary: The Environmental Consultant role is focused on supporting a highways infrastructure design contract within a national renewals framework, based in Exeter or Bristol. The position involves providing expert environmental support, conducting assessments, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The consultant will collaborate with various stakeholders and contribute to the preparation of technical documentation and environmental management plans. This is a 12-month contract offering flexible working options.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advising on environmental aspects such as assessments, ecological studies, permitting, and mitigation strategies.
  • Conducting environmental site visits, inspections, and surveys across multiple disciplines (structures, geotechnical, drainage, highways).
  • Preparing high-quality reports and technical documentation for planning submissions and statutory consultations.
  • Supporting the preparation and audit of Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMP), and advising on Section 61 consents.
  • Coordinating with clients, regulators, and internal teams to ensure compliance with project and regulatory requirements.
  • Contributing to bid writing and supporting junior staff as needed.

Key Skills:

  • Proven experience as an Environmental Consultant or similar, ideally with highways or infrastructure project exposure.
  • Excellent understanding of UK environmental legislation, planning processes, and best practice.
  • Competent in environmental risk assessment and hazard management in line with CDM regulations.
  • Strong report writing, client liaison, and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related subject.
  • Practitioner membership of IEMA (PIEMA) or similar professional body preferred.

Environmental Consultant – Southwest

Location: Exeter or Bristol (with flexible working options)

Contract Type: 12-month contract

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Consultant to support a key highways infrastructure design contract as part of a national renewals framework. This role offers the chance to contribute to a high-value, multi-disciplinary highways programme, delivering environmentally sound infrastructure solutions in collaboration with stakeholders and technical teams.

The Role

You will be part of a wider environmental team providing expert support on highway drainage and civil schemes.

  • Advising on environmental aspects such as assessments, ecological studies, permitting, and mitigation strategies.
  • Conducting environmental site visits, inspections, and surveys across multiple disciplines (structures, geotechnical, drainage, highways).
  • Preparing high-quality reports and technical documentation for planning submissions and statutory consultations.
