Sometimes the first job isn't to transform the technology.
It's to understand what you've actually got.
A newly appointed IT Director has inherited a complex technology landscape within a Not For profit multi-site organisation. We need an experienced Enterprise Architect alongside my client to help lift the lid on the estate, map what's there and create a clear architectural picture of the organisation.
This is a discovery led assignment.
You'll work across the organisation to understand business workflows, map these against applications and systems, identify dependencies and then work down through the underlying technology layer.
Using TOGAF principles - particularly Phases A, B, C and D - you'll help establish the current-state architecture and provide the structure and insight the organisation needs to shape their future IT strategy.
The assignment will involve:
- Mapping the existing enterprise technology landscape
- Understanding business workflows and mapping these to applications
- Identifying application ownership, dependencies, duplication and complexity
- Assessing the underlying technology architecture
- Building a clear current-state/as-is architectural view
- Working closely with IT and key business stakeholders
- Helping provide the architectural foundation for the future technology roadmap
You'll need to be a genuine Enterprise Architect, comfortable walking into an environment where not everything is documented, asking the right questions and gradually joining the dots.
Strong TOGAF experience across Phases A-D is important, alongside previous experience of technology discovery, application/estate mapping and complex transformation environments.
Experience within complex, Not For Profit, regulated or organically grown organisations would translate well.
The initial requirement is expected to be six to eight weeks full-time, before transitioning into a more fractional Enterprise Architecture engagement to support the organisation as the strategy develops.
The client is looking to move quickly, with a start targeted within the next two weeks.
