Key Responsibilities:

  • Guide and mentor other architects, ensuring consistency of design and alignment to strategy.
  • Define and enforce architecture principles, guardrails, and reusable patterns.
  • Horizon scan for emerging technologies (cloud-native, SaaS, low-code, automation) and explore their value via PoCs and pilots.
  • Assure the design and delivery of new applications, ensuring alignment to business needs, architectural standards, and long-term sustainability.
  • Provide input into procurement and supplier evaluation, ensuring solutions meet architectural guardrails.
  • Represent application architecture in cross-domain strategic planning with other enterprise architects (infrastructure, data, security).

Key Skills:

  • Significant experience as an Enterprise Architect or Senior Application Architect.
  • Strong track record shaping application strategy and roadmaps at enterprise or government scale.
  • Experience mentoring and guiding architects, setting guardrails, and leading teams.
  • Proven ability to engage with non-technical senior stakeholders and influence investment decisions.
  • Background in government, public sector, or other highly regulated/complex organisations desirable.

Role: Enterprise Architect – Application Architecture Contract: Inside IR35 | £800–£850/day UMB Locations: London, Bristol, Newcastle, Reading, Warrington, York (Hybrid – 3 days/week onsite) Clearance: SC or CTC (active preferred)

Overview We are seeking an experienced Enterprise Architect (Application Architecture) to lead the application architecture domain and shape the long-term vision for digital services and platforms across a large, complex organisation. This is a strategic leadership role , working closely with senior stakeholders to ensure that application platforms, digital services, and business systems are planned, governed, and delivered in line with organisational goals. You’ll define the roadmap for application services, identify opportunities to modernise and simplify, and mentor architects to deliver sustainable, scalable solutions.
