Summary: The role of English Lecturer involves delivering high-quality GCSE English teaching to post-16 learners at colleges in Abingdon. Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare and deliver engaging and inclusive GCSE English Language (and/or Literature) lessons.
- Teach in line with current GCSE specifications and awarding body requirements.
- Assess, monitor and track student progress, providing clear and constructive feedback.
- Prepare students effectively for examinations and coursework assessments.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of attendance, progress and achievement.
- Provide academic and pastoral support to learners where appropriate.
- Contribute to curriculum development and quality improvement processes.
- Participate in team meetings, standardisation and CPD activities as required.
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding, equality and health & safety policies.
Key Skills:
- Degree in English or a closely related subject.
- Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, Cert Ed, DET or equivalent).
- Experience teaching GCSE English.
- Strong classroom management and organisational skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to motivate learners.
- Commitment to inclusive practice and supporting diverse learners.
- Experience teaching GCSE resit students in a further education environment (desirable).
- Knowledge of current GCSE exam board requirements (desirable).
- Experience supporting students with SEND or additional learning needs (desirable).
