Summary: The Engineering Workshop Technician role involves supporting the inspection, repair, refurbishment, maintenance, and upgrade of mechanical and electrical equipment in a heavy engineering workshop. The position is suited for engineers with a strong mechanical background who excel in fault finding and hands-on repair work. The technician will work within a specialist team, providing expertise in Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and ensuring compliance with technical and quality standards. Responsibilities include diagnostics, repairs, and supervising junior staff while maintaining safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out self-directed testing, diagnostics, repair, maintenance, modification, calibration and manufacture of equipment down to module and individual component level using approved engineering documentation.
- Perform planned and ad-hoc advanced repairs using Approved Source Information (ASI) or OEM technical data.
- Survey, refurbish and maintain Ground Support Equipment (GSE) to required standards.
- Hold self-certification, over-signing, certifying and conditioning responsibilities, including serviceable, unserviceable and scrap status.
- Supervise, train and over-sign work completed by junior staff, equivalent grades and apprentices.
- Support feasibility and development activities, including reverse engineering and the creation of engineering documentation and test procedures.
- Provide specialist technical advice as required.
- Use a range of engineering and business IT systems.
- Work within established engineering governance frameworks, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures and legislation.
- Support the resolution of urgent operational requirements, particularly where OEM support is unavailable.
- Work to agreed schedules, budgets and quality standards while maintaining a strong focus on safety.
Key Skills:
- Previous experience in scheduled maintenance and repair within an engineering or workshop environment.
- Eligibility to meet the criteria for professional registration as EngTech in line with UK-SPEC.
- One of the following qualification routes: Level 4 engineering qualification with an advanced or higher apprenticeship, or Level 3 engineering qualification, a nationally recognised apprenticeship, plus relevant engineering experience.
