Summary: The Engineering Manager will oversee multidisciplinary design teams in the water industry, ensuring that engineering solutions meet safety, quality, and technical standards. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, and develop multidisciplinary teams including engineers, CAD technicians, and graduates.
  • Identify and implement safe, efficient, and value-engineered design solutions, communicating these with clients and project teams.
  • Act as Professional Head for the design function.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant technical, professional, and water industry standards, approving design packages where required.
  • Promote the use of appropriate design tools, including BIM and 3D modelling.
  • Manage the production of integrated design deliverables that meet safety and quality requirements.
  • Interpret and communicate engineering standards, procedures, and updates to the team.
  • Ensure design packages are delivered within agreed timescales, budgets, and formal processes.
  • Manage and record design changes throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead the estimating and planning of design hours for project delivery.

Purpose of the Role

We are working with a specialist engineering consultancy providing design and infrastructure support across the rail and utilities sectors. The organisation supports projects from early design through to installation, delivering safe and efficient solutions on complex infrastructure programmes.

The Engineering Manager will lead multidisciplinary design teams delivering engineering solutions across water industry projects. The role is responsible for ensuring design deliverables meet required safety, quality, and technical standards while being delivered on time and within agreed project parameters.

  • Lead, manage, and develop multidisciplinary teams including engineers, CAD technicians, and graduates.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Around 10 years’ experience working within the regulated water industry.
  • Degree or HND in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status.
  • Strong IT skills and knowledge of engineering design tools.
  • Proven experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and projects.
  • Understanding of MEICA, civil, and process engineering design.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience leading and developing engineering teams within complex infrastructure projects.
  • Strong interest in leading and developing engineering design capability.
