Summary: The Engine Test Technician role involves working in a large engine development facility in Stafford, focusing on the testing and assessment of diesel and gas-fueled engines. The position requires a blend of mechanical and electrical expertise, particularly in engine testing and instrumentation. The technician will support the Test Engineering Team in building and instrumenting engines, as well as modifying electrical harnesses for testing environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build, instrument, and test large diesel and gas-fueled engines.
- Conduct assessments of engine performance and functionality.
- Utilize instrumentation such as thermocouples, pressure transducers, and flowmeters.
- Write test schedules and manage engine test systems (DSG, Cadet, PUMA).
- Modify engine electrical harnesses for test cell environments.
- Work with ECU controller software packages.
Key Skills:
- City Guilds / NVQ Level 3 in an automotive mechanical subject.
- IMechE accreditation.
- Mechanical/electrical experience on diesel engines, including stripping and rebuilding.
- Instrumentation experience with emissions analysers and other testing equipment.
- Knowledge of engine test systems and test schedule writing.
- Familiarity with low voltage electrical systems related to genset applications.
