Summary: The role of Employment Lawyer involves providing comprehensive legal advice on a variety of public sector employment matters for a Police Authority in Greater Manchester. The position is full-time and hybrid, requiring the candidate to work in the office at least two days a week. The successful applicant will handle both non-contentious and contentious employment issues and must be a qualified solicitor with relevant experience. This is a fixed-term position for 12 months, aimed at candidates who can manage a mixed caseload with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise on non-contentious and contentious employment matters including TUPE, pensions, employment contracts, termination issues, disciplinary & grievance procedures, severance, compromise agreements, policies & HR procedures, staff handbooks, redundancies, dismissals, breach of contract claims, maternity & sick pay issues, discrimination issues, health and safety, and Employment Tribunals.
- Negotiate, draft, and interpret a variety of employment-related agreements and documents.
- Collaborate with external solicitors regarding Employment Tribunals and provide necessary assistance or advice.
Key Skills:
- Qualified Solicitor with experience in employment law.
- Ability to manage a mixed caseload with minimal supervision.
- Experience in public sector employment law preferred, but relevant private practice experience is also acceptable.
- Strong negotiation and drafting skills.
- Willingness to attend Courts or Tribunals as required.
