About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Employee Relations Advisor to join our HR team on an initial 3-month fixed term contract to provide additional support during a period of increased workload.

There is potential for the contract to be extended for a further period, depending on business needs.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ER professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can confidently manage a high-volume caseload with minimal supervision.

The successful candidate will be expected to hit the ground running, providing expert Employee Relations support across a diverse operational workforce.

Whilst the role is predominantly home-based, occasional travel across Essex and surrounding areas will be required, with team attendance in the office typically once per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied Employee Relations caseload from start to finish.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to managers on all aspects of ER matters.
  • Support and advise on disciplinary, grievance, conduct and capability processes.
  • Manage sickness absence cases, including long-term absence and attendance management.
  • Attend and support formal meetings, hearings and investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation, organisational policies and best practice.
  • Produce clear and accurate HR documentation, reports and case records.
  • Support ongoing people-related projects and initiatives where required.
  • Work collaboratively with HR colleagues to ensure consistent and effective service delivery.

About You: To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Have substantial Employee Relations experience within a busy HR environment.
  • Be confident managing complex ER casework autonomously.
  • Possess up-to-date knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
  • Be experienced in advising managers on a wide range of ER matters.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, influencing and relationship-building skills.
  • Be highly organised with the ability to manage a demanding and changing workload.
  • Be comfortable working remotely while remaining proactive and responsive.
  • Ideally have experience within the public sector, local government, social care, healthcare or a similarly regulated environment.

Team Structure: You will be joining an established HR team consisting of:

  • 1 HR Business Partner
  • 5 HR Advisors
  • HR Administrative Support

The team supports a large operational workforce and manages a significant volume of ER activity, including sickness absence, capability, conduct and disciplinary matters.

Current Focus Areas

As well as supporting day-to-day Employee Relations activity, the team is currently involved in a number of wider initiatives, including:

  • Employee wellbeing and attendance management
  • Trade union engagement and consultation
  • Workplace conduct and employee relations projects
  • Continuous improvement of HR processes and systems

This role would suit a seasoned Employee Relations professional who enjoys managing complex casework, building strong stakeholder relationships and delivering practical HR solutions from day one.
