Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up, calibrate, and maintain the diagnostic test rig.
  • Participate in running diagnostic tests on ECUs using tools like Vector CANoe, IDEX, or ODIS.
  • Simulate vehicle conditions and faults to validate ECU behaviour and communication.
  • Support the flashing of ECUs with updated software and firmware.
  • Assist in capturing and analysing communication logs and diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
  • Integrate diagnostic CAN logs and identify potential causes of electrical concerns.
  • Understand the interaction and architecture of all systems, including PRODIS systems and wireless MFTs.

Key Skills:

  • Logical approach to problem identification and solving.

  • Computer literate with good technical skills.
  • Electrical harness drawings/Schaltplan knowledge.

Purpose of the Role
Join the Production Planning Electrical team as the Electrical Test Planning Engineer where you'll be responsible for ensuring the development and delivery of an electrical test rig to ensure that electrical tests can be validated as required by project and product development, and play a pivotal role in driving electrical testing for Manufacturing to support Bentley in achieving Beyond100+ strategy.
Reporting into the Functional Manager - High Voltage & Electrical your main responsibilities include;
Test Rig Operation & Maintenance
Set up, calibrate, and maintain the diagnostic test rig.
Supporting all ECUs and vehicle network components (CAN, LIN, FlexRay, Ethernet) are correctly integrated and functional.
Diagnostic Testing
Participate in running diagnostic tests on ECUs using tools like Vector CANoe, IDEX, or ODIS.
Simulate vehicle conditions and faults to validate ECU behaviour and communication.
Software & Firmware Updates
Support the flashing of ECUs with updated software and firmware.
Data Logging & Analysis
Assist in capturing and analysing communication logs and diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
Use tools such as Excel and JIRA to document and track findings.
High Voltage
Ideally, you have some experience working with high-voltage systems or test rigs, especially in an automotive or engineering environment. If you don’t yet have HV experience but are eager to learn, we can support you in gaining the necessary training and certifications to work safely and effectively with HV equipment.
Understands how all systems interact and their architecture including PRODIS systems, wireless MFT’s UPS server/ architecture, IP addresses.
About The Team
The HV & Electrical Planning department (PPMF) are responsible for the specification, validation & verification of the electrical test system software, which is developed by an in-house team. PPMF is also responsible for the support of Pre-Series and Series builds across the whole of Manufacturing, with specialist knowledge of the vehicle electrical systems, assisting with fault diagnosis on vehicles and raising concerns with the respective departments.
About You – Skills And Experience
Logical approach to problem identification and solving, concern identification and resolution experience.
Knowledge and experience of production-based electrical test equipment (including workshop equipment VAS, Diagra, CANalyser, CANoE)
Ability to integrate Diagnostic CAN logs and identify potential cause of electrical concerns.
Computer literate with good technical skills
Electrical harness drawings/Schaltplan knowledge
HND/Degree in Electrical subject or a further Engineering/IT related subject or equivalent proven experience in automotive electrical testing
