Summary: The role of Industrial Electrical Designer involves designing electrical installations and supporting the development of electrical distribution systems within an industrial manufacturing environment. The position is ideal for an Electrical Technician seeking to transition into a design-focused role while leveraging their practical engineering experience. Candidates should be adept at interpreting technical drawings and ensuring compliance with UK regulations. This contract role allows for operation via a Limited Company and is classified as outside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design industrial electrical installations, including cable containment and routing systems
- Support the design of electrical distribution systems, lighting, and power circuits
- Work with motor control systems including DOL starters and variable speed drives
- Produce electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings using CAD software
- Interpret client requirements and technical specifications to develop practical, cost-effective solutions
- Ensure designs comply with current UK regulations and standards
- Perform cable sizing, circuit load calculations, and protection selection
- Support the design of temporary power and generator supply systems
Key Skills:
- Time-served electrical apprenticeship with strong industrial site experience
- Understanding of how industrial/process sites operate
- Experience or exposure to DCS systems
- Experience or exposure to PLC systems
- Experience or exposure to control panel design
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar CAD software
- Experience with cable calculation software such as Trimble (training available)
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations preferred
- Strong understanding of health & safety within industrial environments
- Excellent problem-solving and fault-finding skills
- Good communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Organised with strong attention to detail
- Able to work independently and within a team environment
- Keen to learn and develop technically
